CLEANING

There are many ways and ideas out there on how to best clean candle glass, Some of them good and some not. We have tried them all and believe the following way is the best.

Never try to pry a used candle out of any glass ! especially with a knife.

Before I tell You how to clean the glass let me give You a few simple tips on maintaining glass cleanliness.
Always clip the wick before lighting to about 1/4 inch. as the candle burns  check the wick often and clip again if necessary and with a paper towel wipe the inside of the glass clean, it is easier to clean the glass when it is warm.
After hours of burning it probable will be necessasery to remove wax build up and contamination from glass sides and bottom.
Find an old flat pan or pie tin and layer it with foil, two layers are best. place the glass upside down on the tin and place in the oven.Set oven at about 150 degrees. leave until all wax has melted and fallen into the tin, carefully remove the glass and  holding it by the bottom with glove or towel gently wipe inside of glass with paper towel. It should wipe out very clean.
Its a little bit of trouble but the results are usually worth it.

BREAKAGE

From time to time someone will call or e-mail saying that they had a glass break while a candle was burning, although this has not happened to us We realize that it is possible.

Each glass is basically hand made and no two are alike, Although unlikely it is possible that a glass may have locked in stressess from the molding process and will break no matter what care is taken to prevent it. This is a possibility with any type of glass not just crackled.

Once a candle is burning it is very important to check the wick often and clip it to 1/4 inch or less, do this after it has burned for a minute or so. Look at the flame and if it is too high ,clip the wick.If the flame is moving from side to side move the holder so that it will not be affected by air flow in the room. The flame should be steady and in the center of the glass at all times, The glass should heat up evenly and cool evenly, Always try to prevent any part of a glass being hotter or colder than another part.

The candle being used is very important to how long a glass will last. Avoid any candles with any type of metal cored wicks, although stiffer they usually burn much hotter than cotton, papper or no/cored wicks. Some metals such as lead can cause health problems.

Try to avoid candles that melt rapidly, this type of candle will take continous care and are more apt to cause glass breakage.

Remove used candles from the glass (cleaning instructions) with at least 1/2 inch of wax left in bottom. And Never leave a candle burning unatended.
